Good to Great, Jim Collins What makes a company or organization truly great? How does one define “great” and what are the key components at the heart of any great organization? To find out, Jim Collins and his team of researchers looked at 1,435 Fortune 500 companies, read and coded 6,000 articles, generated more than 2,000 pages of interview transcripts and created 384 megabytes of computer data in a five-year project. At the heart of these findings is what Collins calls the “Hedgehog Concept,” a product or service that leads a company to outshine all competitors, that drives a company's engine and that a company is passionate about. Essay Question 1. Give five suggestions for how Columbus Academy can go from being a very good school to a great one? 2. Using the Hedgehog Concept, explain how Columbus Academy fits the concept: what are we better at than our local competitors, what drives what we do, and, what is the school’s single most important asset? Discussion Question 1. In advance of the first day of school, please submit one (1) question you would like the group to discuss or answer.
