Curriculum Connections: Upper School

Mr. Arndt

Pictures at a Revolution, Mark Harris

While the book deals with specific films from 1967, it also deals with this particular time as a line that denotes a "new Hollywood.” In a short essay, describe the characteristics of this time that helped to define this “new Hollywood.” Discuss the following in your response: changing social customs and evolving approaches to morality and values and how these things specifically affected the popular American movie industry. Examples from the films are welcome. (This will be the basis of our discussion.)

I’d like for you to view all of the films over the summer, but will only require that you view Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. We will watch selected clips from certain films during our session.
